Lenovo is really two different worlds. ThinkPads take a beating and are built to be opened and serviced. IdeaPads and Yogas are thinner, prettier and noticeably more fragile.
By far the most common IdeaPad and Yoga fault. It starts as a noise when opening the lid, then a crack appears beside the hinge, and eventually the bezel lifts. Caught early it is one part; left late it is the whole casing.
It can be the panel, the flex cable running through the hinge, or the backlight. An external monitor tells us which, and that diagnosis is free.
On Yogas a swollen battery can deform the casing and jam the trackpad. If the laptop rocks on the table, do not leave it: a swollen battery is a hazard.
Usually liquid. On ThinkPads the keyboard is a module and swaps out quickly; on IdeaPads it is often built into the upper casing and the whole assembly has to go.
Almost always thermal: dried paste and hardened GPU thermal pads. The difference after a service is very noticeable.
