Slow computer: the definitive fix in 2025

If your computer is running slow, do not buy a new one just yet. In most cases the original performance can be fully restored.

A slow computer is one of the most common problems we see in our Benidorm workshop. The good news is that in most cases there is a solution without buying a new device.

Most common causes of a slow computer

1. Old mechanical hard drive (HDD)

If your computer has a mechanical hard drive and is more than 5 years old, this is almost certainly the main cause of the slowness. The solution is an SSD upgrade, which can make your computer boot 5-10 times faster.

2. Viruses and malware

Malicious programmes consume resources in the background without you noticing. A professional virus removal service can restore full performance instantly.

3. Not enough RAM

With less than 8GB of RAM, Windows 10/11 struggles to run smoothly. A RAM upgrade is an inexpensive and very effective improvement.

4. Full hard drive

When the drive is 90% or more full, performance drops dramatically. Freeing up space or replacing the drive solves the problem.

5. Too many startup programmes

Over time, programmes accumulate that start with Windows and consume resources without you using them. Disabling them can significantly improve boot time.

6. Overheating

A computer that gets too hot automatically slows itself down to protect the components. The solution is an internal clean and thermal paste replacement.
